My name is Alexander N. Schmidt-Lebuhn, and I am a botanist interested, among other things, in the systematics and taxonomy of Lamiaceae and Asteraceae. The greater part of my Ph.D. studies dealt with the mint genus Minthostachys, allowing me to explore scientifically a group that is as pleasant to work with as it is important for the people of the Andes. Although my dissertation is long finished and other projects are currently at the focus of my research, I continue to study the genus and remain interested in receiving additional information or duplicates for determination.

I have started this webpage to provide easy access to general information about this fascinating genus, and to make some features available which would be out of place in scientific publications, like colour images of important species. It should be of interest to gardeners, plant collectors, collection managers, or friends of aromatic plants, but maybe also to ethnobotanists or pharmacologists who might have use for the list of references, which I plan to update regularly.

Feel free to contact me if you have questions, ideas, criticism, photos to contribute, reprint requests, or know of additional articles that should be included in the literature lists. Apart from e-mail, I can also be contacted at the Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research, Canberra, Australia.
